UPDATE: Suspect identified, charges filed, and bond set in non-fatal shooting of 15-year-old

ELKHART, Ind. -- UPDATE: The Elkhart Police Department announced that the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office filed formal criminal charges against the 18-year-old Shawn Palmer Jr., identified as the suspect in connection to the non-fatal shooting on Feb. 9.

Palmer is charged with Aggravated Battery, a Level 3 Felony.

Palmer's bond has been set at $150,000 and remains at the Elkhart County Jail at this time.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Elkhart Police Department reports an arrest has been made in connection to a Feb. 9 shooting in the 1200 block of Mason St. 

An 18-year-old suspect was arrested on Monday following a non-fatal shooting that took place around 8:44 p.m. the night before. 

The victim of the shooting, a 15-year-old boy, was later found by police with gunshot wounds in the area of Fremont and Hudson Streets.

"Officers rendered first aid until medics arrived," the EPD said. "Medics transported the victim to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries."

During the investigation, EPD officers located the 18-year-old male suspect inside a residence in the 1200 block of Mason St. He was arrested and booked into the Elkhart County Jail.

Authorities say the case has been forwarded to the Elkhart County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review of formal criminal charges and that EPD will release the name of the individual arrested if and when a judicial officer finds probable cause for the arrest and sets bail.
