Residents gets some answers on Elkhart Clinic closure
Eau Claire, Mich. -- The small town of Eau Claire is grieving the loss of one of their own after a 36-year-old firefighter was shot and killed over the weekend.
Social media is flooded with posts remembering the army veteran for his life of service, as someone who would do anything to give a helping hand, and the life of any party.
One even adding he was the epitome of a blue-collar American hero.
The flag outside the Eau Claire Fire Department, that Chad Medlin served was flying at half-staff Thursday as the community celebrated his life.
A memorial now sits at the corner of Elm and Main where the Father of six was shot and killed just five days prior.
Authorities say witnesses reported a verbal altercation at a bar that ended in tragedy just before 1 a.m. Saturday.
A second victim was also shot and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
A suspect is currently being held at the Berrien County Jail as the investigation continues.
“Today marks a sad day for our department. We lost a friend. A fellow firefighter," said Chief Carl. "Somebody who served his country. As the Chief of the department, I am looked on to have the answers. Today I am at a loss. We will do the job because that is who we are and who you would want us to be. But each step will be just a little bit harder. “
