Driver dies several days after high speed head-on crash on CR 17
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- A second person has died as a result of a high speed head-on crash that happened on CR 17 Saturday afternoon, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.
Just after 1 p.m., Rita Light was traveling northbound on CR 17 and was slowing down to turn west on to Farmwood Drive when her car traveled left of center and collided with a southbound vehicle traveling at approximately 117 mph.
Debris from the collision struck a third vehicle.
Light was extricated from her vehicle and was transported to the hospital. She died Thursday afternoon as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the southbound vehicle that was allegedly traveling 117 mph, was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from his vehicle. The driver, 19-year-old Brennon Norman, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle that was hit by debris was not injured.
