Driver crashes head-on into Elkhart County Deputy, Indiana State Police investigating
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. - A patrolman with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office was hit head-on after a driver crossed the centerline early Sunday morning.
The Indiana State Police (ISP) have been requested to investigate the crash.
ISP's preliminary investigation shows at approximately 1:00 a.m. Sunday, Patrolman Richard Jasinski was traveling southbound on SR 15 near CR 146 in his marked 2020 Dodge Durango.
South of the intersection, a silver 2012 Chevrolet Impala was traveling northbound when it allegedly crossed the centerline, crashing head-on into Jasinski.
Jasinski was taken to Goshen Hospital where he was treated and released.
The 18-year-old male driver of the Chevrolet had to be extricated from his vehicle.
He was taken to Elkhart General Hospital with serious injuries that aren't believed to be life-threatening.
Authorities say alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash. Toxicology results are pending for the driver of the Chevrolet.
The Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.
ISP's final investigation report will be given to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
