Deputies respond to call of impaired driver, man charged with OWI

Walter Ortiz Rivera

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- The Marshall County Sheriff's Department reports deputies were notified of a possible impaired driver in a silver truck around 5:11 a.m., Sunday, on US 30 heading east, before turning south onto Fir Road.

A deputy located the vehicle and made a traffic stop for violations.

The driver, identified as 37-year-old Walter Ortiz Rivera of Bourbon, was found to have been drinking.

Authorities say field sobriety tests were performed and attempted by Rivera, before he was offered a certified blood test, to which he agreed.

Rivera was taken to the Plymouth Hospital where blood was drawn and tested at four times the legal limit.

Rivera was arrested for Felony Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Due to Prior Convictions and Never Obtaining a License.

Rivera was taken to the Marshall County Jail and given a court date along with a $1500 cash bond.
