College Playoffs: Notre Dame vs. Indiana and how to avoid scammers
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- With the Fighting Irish set to host Indiana in the College Football Playoffs next week, beware of scammers.
The game is already sold out, but plenty of seats at historic Notre Dame stadium are still available on the resale market, with the cheapest already up over a thousand dollars.
"Anytime there is a big event coming into town, people want to get tickets right away they want to get the best prices. So, it's really important to be vigilant when you are looking to get those tickets, especially if you are looking for a resale ticket," stated Better Business Bureau Marketing and Community Relations Manager Katie Grevious.
The Better Business Bureau is warning college football fans to not let scammers tackle their fun this playoff season.
Grevious continues, "You want to buy your tickets directly from the venue, or an authorized vender that that venue says sells those tickets."
And even those who bought their tickets from legitimate sources, like Notre Dame's official secondary ticket partner SeatGeek, need to be careful.
It is advised that all ticket buyers secure their accounts to avoid getting hacked and having someone steal your tickets.
"We've had lots of situations reported to the Better Business Bureau where people have used authorized ticket sellers to buy tickets, but they maybe didn't have a strong password, and scammers were able to get into their accounts," stated Grevious.
In the age of digital tickets, the BBB says check with the venue, don't trust anyone on social media even if it is someone that you because they could be hacked.
And above all else, the BBB states that if it seems to good to be true, it probably is.
"Now were seeing scammers really take advantage of that, because we took that element of the paper ticket out of their way, so we need to take to be more vigilant, and less trusting of people on the internet," stated Grevious.
