ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Fire Department reports crews responded to River Run Apartments at 740 Prairie St. around 8:20 p.m. Thursday regarding a possible structure fire.

Upon arrival, fire officials say they observed smoke in the area with residents evacuating.

The report states crews went door to door looking for the fire.

The fire was found to be a small trash fire in a kitchen on the first floor.

Officials say the fire was mostly out upon arrival and firefighters had it under control within 10 minutes.

Truck crews then used fans to get rid of the smoke inside the building.

No injuries have been reported, and no residents were displaced.

Fire officials say the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
