Amazon executive announces end of data center NDAs with local governments
ABC 57 SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Executives at Amazon say major changes are coming to the company's data center policy.
According to a Linkedin post from Amazon Web Services CEO Matt Garman, the company will no longer use nondisclosure agreements with government agencies it works with on its projects. Garman said the company will focus on open houses and sharing information on design developments.
South Bend mayor James Mueller recently signed an executive order barring representatives and/or employees of the city from signing NDAs connected to data center projects. This came after controversy surrounding a handful of city employees signing NDAs because of the city's involvement in providing wastewater service to the Amazon New Carlisle data center project.
Garman also announced the company will invest over $1 billion over five years in community education, job training, energy affordability, water and energy preservation, and local priorities.
