Body of man swept off Silver Beach’s South Pier recovered

ST. JOSEPH, Mich. – The body of a man who drowned after being swept off the South Pier at Silver Beach has been recovered, the St. Joseph Public Safety Department announced today.

27-year-old Dakota Yergeau died after being swept into Lake Michigan on March 28.

At 5:30 p.m. that Sunday, officers from the Department of Public Safety were called to the South Pier for reports of a water rescue in Lake Michigan.

Two men were on the pier when a large wave swept one of them into the lake.

Rescue efforts to find the victim were unsuccessful.

His body was recovered Wednesday by the Michigan State Police Dive Team.
