VAN HORN, Texas -- Pop star Katy Perry and journalist Gayle King are among six women who traveled aboard Blue Origin’s all-female, suborbital space tourism mission in Monday morning.

Liftoff aboard the company’s New Shepard rocket from Blue Origin’s West Texas launch site took place around 9:30 a.m. ET Monday.

This marks the 11th crewed trip to space for a New Shepard spacecraft.

Only about 15 percent of the more than 700 people who have traveled to space so far have been women.
