UPDATE: Driver charged with multiple felonies following crash that left 17-year-old in critical condition

UPDATE: St. Joseph County Court documents show Gregory Durling has officially been charged with Causing Serious Bodily Injury when Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, a Level 5 Felony, Causing Serious Bodily Injury when Operating a Vehicle with a Schedule I or II Substance, a Level 5 Felony, Criminal Recklessness committed with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 Felony, and a Criminal Mischief, a Class B Misdemeanor.

The sentencing range for a Level 5 felony is one to six years with a maximum fine of $10,000.

The sentencing range for a Level 6 Felony is six months to two and a half years with a maximum fine of $10,000.

The sentencing range for a Class B Misdemeanor is up to six months with a maximum fine of $1,000.

Durling is in custody at the St. Joseph County Jail and will be arraigned on Wednesday at 1 p.m.

As of Tuesday, police say the 17-year-old victim is still sedated, in ICU at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, and still has both of her legs, after doctors said she could lose both.

The girl's femurs are crushed, and she has a brain bleed as well as bleeding from the spleen and liver.

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team has been activated after a pickup truck hit a pedestrian walking on the sidewalk at the intersection of Mishawaka and Longfellow Avenues on Sunday afternoon.

Authorities say reports of the incident came in around 1:18 p.m. and, when they arrived on scene, they found that the pedestrian was critically injured.

"Initial reports indicate that the driver of a Toyota Tacoma, Gregory Michael Durling, 38, of South Bend, struck a 17-year-old female, who was walking on the sidewalk with family members," authorities said. "The Toyota continued and struck the exterior wall of a building on the corner."

The victim was taken to the hospital with severe injuries, where she remains in critical condition.

According to the preliminary investigation, authorities say Durling showed signs of impairment and was uninjured in the crash.

He was taken into custody at the scene and is currently being held at the St. Joseph County Jail, pending charges.
