Benton Harbor police partnership July report

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- The Benton Harbor District Crime Prevention Squad has continued to grow their enforcement and community engagement by getting more guns off the street and hosting police-involved activities for the area’s youth through the month of July.

The squad is a specialized police team made up by Michigan State troopers from the other four districts within the Secure Cities Partnership.

Between July 7 and July 30, the Benton Harbor squad confiscated 12 firearms resulting in the arrests of seven suspects and the apprehension of one juvenile. 

This squad also assisted Benton Harbor police in a shots fired investigation on July 10, an armed robbery on July 15, locating a domestic assault suspect on July 24, pulling over three different intoxicated drivers and more.

The squad also participated in the Second Annual Bike with a Cop event in July at the Benton Harbor Boys and Girls Club Fettig Youth Center.

Squad members also participated in the Benton Harbor Impact Program Tie Dye fun day to engage positive relationships with the area’s youth.
