Benton Harbor man sentenced to over eight years in prison for illegal firearm possession
BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- The United States Attorney’s Office Western District of Michigan announced 47-year-old Lamon Tirell Turner, of Benton Harbor, was sentenced to eight years and four months in prison after a federal jury found him guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Documents states Turner has several prior violent convictions including assault, unarmed robbery, domestic violence, and assault on a police officer.
Authorities say investigators executed a search warrant at an apartment where Turner was staying and found a firearm hidden underneath a couch, adjacent to where he slept.
Documents state Turner’s wallet was within feet of the weapon.
Investigators say a DNA analysis confirmed Turner’s DNA was on the firearm.
Authorities say the recovered firearm was determined to be the last one recovered of the 123 guns stolen during the Nov. 16, 2023, robbery of Dunham's Sporting Goods in Benton Harbor.
Law enforcement say with this recovery, they've now successfully found all firearms taken during that robbery.
