Bare Hands Brewery goes belly up in unanimous vote

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Thursday morning, the South Bend Redevelopment Commission (RDC) voted unanimously to approve the issuance of a letter of default to Bear Brew, LLC, the owners of Bare Hands Brewery.

In August of 2016, a purchase agreement was made with the RDC for the LLC to buy the former Gates Service Center, located at the corner of Wayne and William in downtown South Bend, for just one dollar.

Since then, seven amendments to the agreement have been made, extending the timeline's completion deadline, according to the RDC. The latest deadline was September 1, and still, a brewery has not been built.

Now moving forward with a letter of default, the LLC has 30 days to complete the project or turn in the deed to the RDC, who could then move forward with other redevelopment opportunities in that space.

The original location for Bare Hands Brewery is located in Granger. ABC57 has made multiple attempts to contact the owners of Bear Brew, LLC, but have yet to hear back.
