UPDATE: Bank shooting results in one victim taken to hospital, one taken into custody
ELKHART, Ind. -- UPDATE TWO: EPD reports a 40-year-old man remains hospitalized after Thursday's shooting in the 1st Source Bank parking lot.
Police say at last check, the victim was in stable condition.
Police say the suspect, a 38-year-old man, was arrested and booked into the Elkhart County Jail on a preliminary charge of Aggravated Battery.
Authorities say the suspect's name will be released if and when a judicial officer finds probable cause for the arrest and sets a bond amount.
UPDATE: The Elkhart Police Department confirmed that they have a suspect in custody after a shooting at a local bank this afternoon.
"Upon arrival, first responders located an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot," EPD said. "Medics rendered first aid and transported the shooting victim to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of serious injuries. As of [5:15 p.m.], his condition is unknown."
No individuals inside the bank were harmed.
Although a suspect is in custody, this remains as an active and ongoing investigation.
ORIGINAL: Elkhart police reported on a shooting at the parking lot of 1st Source Bank in Elkhart on East Bristol Street at approximately 4:09 p.m. on Thursday.
One victim from the shooting is en route to Memorial Hospital.
There is no threat to the community, however the scene remains currently active.
