NILES, Mich. -- Art is in motion in downtown Niles.
One-thousand pound tree trunks will be transformed into elephants, giraffes, and cranes.
These carvers usually create ice sculptures but consider wood carving more of a hobby.
Carving the sculptures takes about four days.
"It's not the art that makes it hard. For one, it's rounded, you can't draw it, you gotta picture it. So you really gotta keep it in your head what you're carving. And also just getting through the wood with chainsaws..wood is really hard," said sculptor Burr Rasmussen.
The carving will be a bit trickier as some of the trunks are coated with poison ivy.
