Annual bell ringing commemorating 9/11 at St. Patrick's Park goes virtual

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Fire departments in St. Joseph County will be coming together on Friday to commemorate the 19th Anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks.

The Clay Fire Territory, South Bend and Mishawaka Fire departments will  perform a virtual "Ringing of the Bell" ceremony at the 9-11 Memorial located at St. Patrick's County Park.

Officials will be doing the event virtually this year because of COVID-19 and they are asking the public to not attend in-person.

Those interested in watching the ceremonies can see the entire event live on the St. Joseph County Park's Facebook page starting at 9 a.m.

Following the ceremony, the site, which includes the Standing Tall sculpture and a section of the steel beam from Ground Zero, will be back open to the public.
