ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports an 82-year-old passenger involved in a two-vehicle crash on May 31, died in the hospital on June 13, resulting from injuries in the initial crash.

The official report states on Friday, May 31, at 11:43 a.m. a deputy responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of S.R. 15 and C.R. 42.

Authorities state the weather was clear at the time of the crash and the road was dry.

The investigation indicates a 2013 Honda Civic, driven by 77-year-old Paul Burns of Brownsburg, Ind., was travelling west on C.R. 42 when he stopped at the stop sign at the three-way intersection of C.R. 42 and S.R. 15.

Authorities say a second vehicle, a 2016 Chevy Silverado driven by 60-year-old Armando Garcia Yepez of Goshen, was traveling north on S.R. 15.

The report says this is when Burns failed to yield to the right of way to Yepez and a crash occurred causing driver's side damage to the Civic and front-end damage to the Silverado.

Burns was cited for Failure to Yield Right of Way and was taken to the hospital for head and chest pain.

Burns had three passengers with him at time of the crash, including an unnamed 15-year-old who was taken to the hospital for a minor facial injury.

Burns' 22-year-old passenger, identified as Daniel Burns, was taken to the hospital for complaints of pain.

Burns' 82-year-old passenger, identified as Diane Burns, was taken to the hospital for a head injury and was pronounced dead from the injury on Thursday, June 13, at 12:34 p.m.

Yepez's lone passenger, identified as 57-year-old Luz Garcia, was taken to the hospital for hip pain.
