40-year-old man injured after crash with garbage truck

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- The Cass County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to a two-vehicle on Oil City Road near M-62 in Jefferson Township on Wednesday around 11:43 a.m.

Authorities' initial investigation shows a vehicle, driven by 40-year-old Keith Plummer of Vandalia, was traveling north on Oil City Road and a Michiana garbage truck, driven by 43-year-old Matthew Snow of Eau Claire, was stopped facing north on Oil City Road.

Deputies say Plummer failed to stop in time behind the garbage truck, crashing into the truck's rear.

It is unclear if the truck was stopped on the shoulder of the road, or directly in the road, and for what reason. 

Plummer was taken to Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
