14 Children receive minor injuries in school bus crash

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- St. Joseph County police were busy at the scene of a two vehicle crash involving a South Bend Community School Corporation bus on Wednesday morning.

The crash happened at 7:57 a.m. at Linden and Ireland Road.

Officers said the school bus driver did not see a westbound car and pulled out into the path of it.  They also said sun and fog obstructed her view and contributed to the crash.

The bus had 45 students from Hay School on board. Eight students were taken to Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. Once at school, six more students reported injuries and were checked out by paramedics and school staff. The injuries were minor, mainly bumps and bruises.

The bus driver, 60-year-old Karen Krouse, was not injured in the collision.

The driver of the other vehicle, 31-year-old Melissa Aldering was taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment.  She was complaining of back and hip pain.

The road was closed for an hour and a half while crews worked to clean up the scene.
