Woman wakes up to man halfway through her kitchen window

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A woman woke up to a robber hanging halfway inside her kitchen window.

Police said this all happened late Saturday night just before 2 a.m. on Main Street.

The burglar did not manage still steal anything but he did manage to frighten this family.

Cindy Bennett said she was asleep when she heard some noise coming from her kitchen.

“I came around the corner and there was a guy hanging in my window," said Cindy Bennett.

Bennett yelled for the burglar to get out and then called for her husband.

“The guy jumps out of the window and Tim ran out of the front door and started following him," said Bennett.

As Bennett’s husband was running after the thief with a golf club, Bennett quickly called the cops.

“One pulled up and Tim told him he was another block away and they went looking," said Bennett.

Another policeman came and took fingerprints, but they never found the bad guy.

Bennett said this is just one of many burglaries in her neighborhood recently.

“The apartment behind us, the door was kicked open during the middle of the day, and there were three televisions and a computer taken," said Bennett.

Bennett said she is glad nothing was stolen, but having her home invaded has ruined her sense of security.

“I think I was shaking until about five in the morning," said Bennett.
