Woman seriously injured after being run over by pickup truck

ELKHART, Ind. --A woman was injured when she was knocked to the ground and run over by a pickup truck during a domestic dispute, according to Elkhart Police.

 On September 2 just before 5 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Bypass Road and Nappanee Street for a crash involving a pedestrian.

When the officer arrived, they found a woman sitting in the parking lot of the Drive and Shine. Police said she had visible injuries to her face, head and back area.

Medics responded to the scene and transported the victim to the hospital with serious injuries, including broken bones.

Police located a man, Thomas Peffley, nearby, outside his Dodge Ram pickup truck.

The preliminary investigation revealed Peffley and the woman were in a domestic dispute with the victim standing outside the driver's door and Peffley behind the wheel.

When Peffley tried to drive away during the fight, the victim was knocked to the ground and the truck ran over her, according to Elkhart Police.

Peffley was taken into custody on preliminary charges of domestic battery with serious bodily injury and criminal recklessness.
