Woman injured after striking a tree to avoid deer

CASS COUNTY, Mich. – Cass County Sherriff’s Department has reported a personal injury crash that happened on Savage Rd. near Born St. in Newburg Township Sunday morning at around 445 a.m.

51-year-old Misty Barnes of Three Rivers was traveling northbound on Savage Rd. when a deer ran out in front of her.

She swerved to avoid the deer, then lost control, and ran off the roadway and struck a tree.

Barnes was transported to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment.

Assisting on the scene was SEPSA Ambulance Service, Newburg Ambulance Service and Newburg Fire Department.

It is believed that seatbelts were used and that alcohol is not a factor.

This crash remains under investigation.
