SOUTH BEND, Ind.—Which badge can make the best burger?
South Bend Fire Chief Carl Buchanon and St. Joseph County Sheriff Bill Redman put their skills to the test on Tuesday in a light-hearted competition called "Battle of the Badges," to benefit a local charity (and win the bragging rights).
Recover Michiana put on the event at Howard Park Public House, which invited community members to pop over for a burger taste-test, with all of the proceeds going to support the non-profit’s September 19 event. The cook-off started at 5 p.m. and runs until 8 p.m.
The annual festival planned for September celebrates recovery and provides access to supportive resources for those who are personally battling or caring for a loved one battling substance abuse.
Recover Michiana Fest provides scholarships for rehabilitation treatment, funding for recovery coaches and more.
On the menu Tuesday night, Buchanon cooked up a caprese/bruschetta burger while Redman concocted a breakfast burger.Â
The winner will be announced at the event at 8 p.m. and on the organization's Facebook page.Â
