What's happening this weekend in Michiana

Here are just a few of the events and activities going on in the Michiana area this weekend.

American Legion 210 hosts second annual Michiana Food Truck Showdown

American Legion Post 210 in Middlebury will be host to the second annual Michiana Food Truck Showdown on Saturday from noon to 8 p.m.

Organizers invite the community to come out and sample some of the best food trucks Michiana has to offer.

Last year organizers said they had over 2,200 people in attendance.

There's no entry or parking fees and you can spend as little or as much as you want.

Attendees can buy food, pick a favorite truck, enter raffles, play games, enjoy music, and see who takes home the trophy.

The Legion is located at 103 York Dr. in Middlebury.

Elkhart Riverwalk Grand Prix Friday and Saturday

Elkhart Riverwalk Grand Prix

The City of Elkhart will close sections of the roads surrounding NIBCO Park for the Elkhart Riverwalk Grand Prix taking place on Friday and Saturday.

Karting practice and qualifying will take place on Friday with the kart races beginning Saturday morning.

There will be food vendors, live music, a car show, a karaoke contest with cash prize, and a cornhole competition.

There will also be a Kids Zone and if your child is between the ages of 3 to 9, there will be the Kem Krest Elkhart Grand Prix Power Wheels Competition on Saturday in Central Park.

Entry fees are $25 per racer. You can sign them up here. Limited spots remain.

Every child participant will receive a hat and medal and winners from the Rookie and Pro division will each receive a trophy.

Friday:

  • 1 p.m. - Mayor's Challenge Race
  • 5 p.m. - Kids Zone and vendors open
  • 5 p.m. - Karting practice and Qualifying
  • 8 p.m. - Live band karaoke contest with $1,000 prize
  • 8:30 p.m. - Pro Fleet Pro Dash Race

Saturday:

  • 8 a.m. - Lochmandy Motors 5k Run/Walk
  • 10 a.m. - Renegade RV Car Show and karting races begin
  • 10 a.m. - Patrick Industries Cornhole with $5,000 purse
  • 10 a.m. - Vendors and displays open
  • Noon - Kem Krest Power Wheels Grand Prix and Kids Zone open
  • Noon - Sponsor Challenge Race
  • 3 p.m. - Thor opening ceremonies
  • 3 p.m. - Genesis First Responder Challenge
  • 4 p.m. - Size Matters Performance
  • 4 p.m. - Patrick Industries Cornhole final brackets
  • 4:30 p.m. - Karting Main Feature Races
  • 7:30 p.m. - Karting awards ceremony
  • 8 p.m. - Hillbilly Rockstarz - country band
  • 10 p.m. - Morryde fireworks finale

'Chalk the Block' in downtown St. Joseph

St. Joseph Today

St. Joseph Today will be host to "Chalk the Block" on Broad Street in downtown St. Joseph from Friday until Sunday.

Organizers say chalk artists will take over part of downtown, where attendees can watch as both amateurs and professionals prepare their squares on Friday evening, work Saturday, and enjoy the completed chalk art on Sunday.

The family-friendly festival will showcase regional, national, and international artists.

Attendees can vote for their favorite chalk square in the People’s Choice.

Tickets will be sold at the People’s Choice Tent on Broad Street for a dollar each on Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. One ticket equals one vote.

The artists will be set up on Broad Street between Lake Boulevard and State Street and Pleasant Street on the east side of Main Street near 221 Main St. in St. Joseph, Mich.

Friday:

  • Artists begin chalking - Early evening
  • View the chalk in the Pleasant Street Plaza - All day

Saturday:

  • Artists continue chalking - All day
  • St. Joe Farmers Market - 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Lake Bluff Park
  • People's Choice voting - noon to 8 p.m.
  • Summer Movie Series hosted by the City of St. Joseph - 7:30 p.m. in Milton Park

Sunday:

  • Chalk the Block viewing - All day
  • Antiques on the Bluff - 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Lake Bluff Park
  • People's Choice Voting - 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Municipal Band Concert - 7 p.m. at the John E.N. Howard Bandshell
