SOUTH BEND, Ind. - As the holidays approach, the Portage Township Trustee Office has shared their list of warming centers and the hours.

Township officials say these warming centers aim to provide a safe, heated environment for individuals during extreme cold weather events like winter storms, cold snaps, or other emergency situations when temperatures drop to dangerous levels.

Officials say it’s important to familiarize yourself with warming centers in the community in case of an emergency.

Charles Black Community Center at 3419 W. Washington St.

• Monday - Thursday: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• Friday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Closed on Saturdays and Sundays

Howard Park Event Center at 219 S. St. Louis Blvd.

• Monday - Thursday: 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
• Friday: 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
• Saturday: 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
• Sunday: 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

YMCA O'Brien Center at 321 E. Walter St.

• Monday - Friday: 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• Saturday: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Sunday: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
