Vehicle strikes fence and NIPSCO pole following crash, driver cited

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to the intersection of S.R. 13 and C.R. 20 around 11:08 a.m. on Oct. 3 for a two-vehicle crash.

The report states a 2014 Ford Flex, driven by 78-year-old Carol Kiel of Middlebury, was traveling south on S.R. 13 when she turned left at the intersection with C.R. 20, failing to yield to a 2019 Terex Advance Mixer, driven by a 44-year-old Bristol man.

The Bristol man's vehicle then struck Kiel in the intersection.

Kiel's vehicle then went off the roadway, striking a fence along with a NIPSCO pole.

Kiel and the other driver were taken to Elkhart General Hospital for their injuries, which included complaints of pain in the chest, knees, and left wrist, and a laceration to the forehead respectively.

Kiel was cited for Failure to Yield Right of Way.
