Van Buren County Marine Patrol responds to watercraft emergency

SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. -- The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office reports its Marine Patrol responded to a watercraft emergency on Lake Michigan involving a jet ski that had flipped and was taking on water around 1:21 p.m. Saturday.
Authorities arrived on scene via the department's 21-foot patrol vessel and patrol jet ski equipped with a rescue board.
The initial report stated a jet ski had overturned and couldn't be righted due to water intake.
Rescuers located the jet ski and the rider who safely boarded another jet ski. The group included four people, each on their own watercraft.
Deputies then towed the overturned jet ski back to the harbor while the remaining riders were escorted safely back to the harbor by another deputy.
The jet ski was then brought to the launch ramp, where it was flipped upright and removed from the water without further incident.
No injuries have been reported.
The sheriff's office also reminds all watercraft operators to wear life jackets and stay alert to mechanical issues while on the water.
