Stretch of U.S. 12 in Berrien County to have lane restriction, closures all summer

ABC 57

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- After clearing trees in the area last November, the Michigan Department of Transportation and its contractors are ready to begin a $9.1 million road project on almost seven miles of U.S. 12 on April 14.

The project will cover the section of U.S. 12 that stretches from the Galien/Bertrand Township lines, less than a mile west of Dayton Road, east to the intersection of Mayflower Road where the popular JD's Truckstop sits.

"The project includes asphalt repaving and shoulder widening, intersection rebuilding, drainage improvements, guardrail replacement and pavement markings," MDOT officials said.

The project is expected to be complete by Monday, Sept. 15.

"There will be lane closures throughout the project, with detours posted on Galine-Buchanan Road during total closures for culvert replacement," MDOT officials said. "Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 110 jobs."
