UPDATE: Power outages caused by storms persist in areas of Michiana

We're tracking power outages across Michiana.

The number of people in the dark is on the rise Thursday morning thanks to storms rolling through the area.

According to Indiana Michigan Power, 1,296 customers were without power, as of 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Berrien County had 192 customers without power, St. Joseph County had 194 customers in the dark, and LaPorte County had the most power outages with 1,877 customers without power.

The numbers were much higher and had also affected Elkhart County customers earlier in the morning, but power has since been restored to that area.

Outside the viewing area, thousands of our neighbors to the southeast, near Fort Wayne and Muncie, are also experiencing outages.

We’ll keep you updated on the outages throughout the day.

Here is a map from the Indiana Michigan Power website showing the affected areas.
