UPDATE: Former Walter Piano building to be torn down

ELKHART, Ind. -- A one time prominent building in Elkhart will be torn down.

The former Walter Piano building at the corner of Beardsley and Michigan in Elkhart caught fire on Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters told ABC 57 that the building will likely be torn down in October.

The building had been vacant for some time.

In mean time, Michigan Street is closed alongside the building to prevent walls from collapsing on to passing cars.
