ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Police Department reports officers responded to a theft report Sunday night at the Walgreens located at 52482 S.R. 933.

The report states upon arrival, officers found 37-year-old Kathleen Spargo removing stolen items from the backseat of an Uber vehicle into a shopping cart. The Walgreens store manager calculated the items' value at $1,335.75.

Police say while detained Spargo and while doing so, they noticed there was something under her hoodie she was wearing. Police found it to be a blue and white striped backpack, which was searched and found to contain various cosmetic items.

Spargo was read her Miranda Rights and agreed to speak with officers. Spargo told police she had made a mistake and when she was trying to load the items into the Uber, the driver told her he was not going to provide her a ride.

The Uber driver told police he was called to the store to pick up Spargo at which point she walked out of the store with a shopping cart full of items, which she began loading into his car at which point the store manager came out and yelled "she stole that stuff."

The Uber driver then told her to take the stuff out of the car and refused to give her a ride.

Police were then provided surveillance video by the manger. Police say the video shows Spargo loading the cart full of items and attempting to leave the store without paying.

Spargo was arrested and taken to the St. Joseph County Jail.

She has been formally charged with Theft.
