Two local towns seek input on 2040 Comprehensive Plans

INDIANA - The towns of New Carlisle and Culver are seeking their communities' input on their respective 2040 Comprehensive Plans in collaboration with Michiana Area Council of Governments (MACOG).

NEW CARLISLE

After a year-long planning process, the Town of New Carlisle and MACOG have developed a plan called “New Carlisle 2040 Comprehensive Plan.”

Officials say this draft plan is an update to their current 2007 Comprehensive Plan with new goals and strategies that reflect the opportunities and challenges New Carlisle is now experiencing.

The community is invited to review and share their input on the new plan.

Town officials are offering a 30-day comment period that started March 12, and will go until April 11.

You can read the plan and comment online here.

Residents can also share their input by filling out a paper form at New Carlisle Town Hall or the New Carlisle-Olive Township Public Library.

Following the public's input, the town's next step in the process will be to seek the St. Joseph County Area Plan Commission’s endorsement of approval and a final approval by the New Carlisle Town Council.

CULVER

The Town of Culver and MACOG have developed a plan called “Destination 2040 Culver Comprehensive Plan,” and it's also ready for public review.

Culver town officials say they want to hear from its residents to ensure the plan reflects their aspirations.

Officials say Culver has been working on updating its Comprehensive Plan from 2014 with MACOG to refine the vision and values to leave a lasting legacy for its current and future residents.

Culver kicked off community engagement with participants at Lake Fest and the Farmers’ Market events in July of 2022 that sought input on the “Postcards from the Future” and an input survey.

Town officials say there were 275 survey submissions from residents, and 51 individuals participated in the postcard activity.

Culver officials aim to ensure the goals and strategies reflect the community’s aspirations and prioritize what the town should focus on implementing first in the next few years.

Culver is offering a 30-day comment period that started March 12 and will go until April 11.

You can view the plan and submit your input online here.

Residents can also get printed copies at Culver Town Hall or the Culver-Union Township Public Library and share their input by filling out a paper form.

Officials say after the public comment period, the next steps will be to seek the Culver Plan Commission’s endorsement of approval and then a final approval by the Culver Town Council.
