SOUTH BEND, Ind. - First Fridays are back in downtown South Bend and the South Bend Museum of Art is celebrating with three new exhibits opening tonight.
Tonight's First Friday opening takes place from 5 to 8 p.m.
Potawatomi artist, Jason Wesaw's "On the Banks, Above" is on display in the Artist League Gallery. His work focuses on how the St. Joseph River shaped life of the Potawatomi and the South Bend community.
The show is thanks to the Big NEA Read Collaboration with the St. Joe County Public Library. The museum is holding a gallery and book talk on September 1 from 5 to 8 p.m.
The Student and Faculty Show is also on display. It features artwork from students and faculty members at the museum. The winner of the show will be announced Friday night.
Mayor James Mueller is also announcing this year's Festival of Banners winners. This year's theme is "Heroes and Leaders." Fire Chief Carl Buchanan will be judging the entries.
Classes for the South Bend Museum of Art's first fall session are now open. You can see a full list of classes and register here.
