The Salvation Army to celebrate National Donut Day on June 7
ELKHART, Ind. -- The Salvation Army will be delivering donuts to key community partners, and the public on June 7 in honor of National Donut Day.
The Salvation Army will be handing out donuts at All Things Snacks, located at 524 South Main Street in Elkhart, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
A tradition dating back to 1938, The Salvation Army first celebrated National Donut Day in Chicago to help raise money for those in need during the Great Depression.
“National Donut Day is a reminder of the good in our community,”,” said Lt. Joshua Hubbard. “As we celebrate with donuts, we remember the donut lassies who served donuts on the front lines of WW I. These women, sought to spread hope in such a dark time for the world however they could. Donuts were the symbols of hope.”
