The Cook Nuclear Plant Unit 2 has completed its Spring 2024 refueling outage

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- As of May 6, Indiana Michigan Power's Cook Nuclear Plant Unit 2 has completed its Spring 2024 refueling outage which began on March 23, connecting to the transmission grid on Friday, May 3, at 7:52 p.m.

Cook's Unit 1 stayed at full power safely during the duration of the 41-day Unit 2 refueling outage. 

This outage included replacing a reactor coolant pump motor, performing periodic tests on steam generators and replacing the balance of plant battery. 

The main turbine and main feed pump turbines also had an upgraded overspeed protection system installed. 

Leading up to and during the outage, over 1,000 additional contracted workers supplemented regular plant staff. 

Around 12,000 maintenance, equipment modification and inspection job activities, totaling 184,000 workhours were completed over two daily 12-hour work shifts.
