Syracuse Fire Deparment responds to record number of calls
For Chief Mickey Scott of the Syracuse Fire Department, the last month has been a tough one.
"I've been on here since 1990, which is twenty-two years now, and I've never seen it that busy," Scott said.
He and his fellow firefighters responded to almost 150 calls in June; around 60 more than what's usual for this time of the year.
They've responded to everything from heat exhaustion to fires.
"I knew it would go up, but I didn't know it would go up to that extent," Scott said.
Syracuse firefighters would normally respond to three calls a day, but are now having to respond to five or more. He's in the process of recruiting more volunteer firefighters, because he expects the remainder of July to be abnormally busy as well.
