Synder lifts outdoor burning, fireworks ban in Michigan's UP
LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan Governor Rick Snyder has lifted the outdoor burn ban in 49 counties and a fireworks ban in Luce and Schoolcraft counties.
Snyder had issued the bans on May 25 in responsde to the wildfires that destroyed more than 20,000 actres and damaged more than 100 buildings in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
"The state Department of Natural Resources has determined, based on rainfall amounts and other metrics, that the extreme fire hazard conditions have subsided and so we are lifting the outddor burning ban," Synder said in a proclaimation announcing the ban lift.
Synder also commended the efforts of the firefighters, conservation officers and National Guard troops who are helping contain the fire that continues to burn.
