Suspect identified and charged in Monday night stabbing in Elkhart

ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Police Department announced on Wednesday an Elkhart County judicial officer found probable cause for the Nov. 18 stabbing arrest of 26-year-old Charles Bell Jr. of Elkhart.

Bell's bond was set at $150,000.

The 49-year-old victim told authorities that Bell, whom he knew, stabbed him and took his backpack in the 1200 block of S. Main St. Monday night.

Police say Bell was arrested that same evening in the 1300 block of Eden Street and taken to the Elkhart County Jail on preliminary charges of Robbery with Serious Bodily Injury, a Level 2 Felony, Aggravated Battery, a Level 3 Felony, and Resisting Law Enforcement, a Class A Misdemeanor.

The case has been forwarded to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office for review of formal criminal charges.
