Suspect arrested in connection with South Bend bank robbery
UPDATE: On March 13, Jose Medrano pleaded guilty to Robbery-Taking property from another by use of or threatening use of force, a level five felony.
He was sentenced to four years in community corrections with 147 days served and two years suspended. Following the remained of his sentence, he will be placed on two years of probation.
ORIGINAL: SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with a South Bend bank robbery from Oct. 12.
South Bend Police were called to a 1st Source Bank on 4500 block of W. Western Avenue with a report of an armed robbery.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with bank employees, who provided a description of the suspect and indicated that the suspect passed a note that read, “I have a gun and a bomb. Give me your money now.”
The suspect left the bank, escaping with a large amount of money.
South Bend Police Major Crimes Unit Detective Stephanie Northcutt was able to identify and locate the suspect, 56-year-old Jose Medrano.
Through a collaboration with the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office, Medrano has been charged with Robbery in connection with this case.
Medrano is being held at the St. Joseph County Jail; all persons are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.
