UPDATE: State police investigating Fulton County crash that left one man dead
FULTON COUNTY, Ind. - UPDATE: Indiana State Police report just after 8 a.m., Thursday, state troopers and deputies with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal two-vehicle crash on U.S. 31 at Southway 31 in Rochester.
Authorities say their initial investigation indicates that 38-year-old Dewayne A. Hecht, of Rochester, was driving a 2009 Hyundai Accent heading west on Southway 31.
The report states Hecht attempted to drive across U.S. 31 when a 2019 Volvo semi-truck traveling south on U.S. 31 collided with his vehicle.
Both vehicles came to a rest south of the intersection.
Hecht was pronounced dead on the scene by the Fulton County Coroner.
The driver of the semi, 53-year-old Remzi Ozturk of Holland, Mich., was uninjured.
Officials say this is an active and ongoing investigation, and there is no further information to release currently.
Authorities say the family of the deceased has been notified.
