St. Patrick’s Day sleuthing at Ox Bow County Park
GOSHEN, Ind. — St. Patrick’s Day spirit thrived Sunday afternoon in Goshen despite the intermittent snow.
Treasure-seekers took part in the scavenger hunt in search of a fitting prize, golden shamrocks.
The golden shamrocks were dispersed all throughout the Ox Bow County Park with clues to help guide people an inch closer to striking gold.
Even out in the snow, seekers were feeling extremely confident about their sleuthing abilities. One Goshen kid stated, “I will find one hundred.” Another kid exclaimed, “One million!”
Once treasure seekers found shamrocks, if they posted a selfie on Facebook or Instagram with the shamrock, tagging Elkhart County Parks in the picture, they were eligible to be entered into a raffle for prizes, including an annual pass for the Ox Bow County Park, a birdhouse, and a variety of books.
Krista Daniels, the Interpretive Naturalist Manager, stated, “It’s just a fun way to get to know the history of the park property. And just to have fun - get a lot of exercise, there’s a lot of walking that will take place today by the people.”
It’s safe to say families got in their steps today and some even did an Irish jig to get into the spirit.
If you missed out on Sunday’s festivities, Elkhart Parks System has many more family-friendly events coming up soon, including a Spring Wildflower Bio Blitz and a Trout Day event with a pancake breakfast to celebrate the opening of trout season.
