'Speak Our Truth Project: Child Safety and Human Rights Rally' on Saturday

ELKHART, Ind. -- Rio’s Rainbow, Parent Coalition for Child Safety & Wellness, Nonviolent Medicaid Army, and Cosecha have partnered to co-sponsor the first "Speak Our Truth Project: Child Safety and Human Rights Rally" On Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Elkhart Civic Plaza.

Organizers say the rally will be a collective platform of truth-telling and solidarity, featuring a lineup of speakers and arts and culture performers from across Indiana. 

“Social problems require a united social movement of people from every background, beyond race, social or political status, and religion.  Systemic change and accountability demand vulnerability outside of our societal roles and personal agendas. We must put the safety and well-being of our children ahead of our own comfort”, said Rachel Van Alstine, Parent Coalition for Child Safety & Wellness.

Community members are invited to the rally where there will be a Speak Your Truth Booth for individuals to share their own stories.

There will be free Family Fun Basket raffle giveaways, music by DJ Certified Grind, dancing, children’s games and chalk art stations, bounce houses, inflatable basketball, and axe throwing by Party Starter Rentals.

There will also be a 33-foot inflatable Fire Safety House by the Elkhart Fire Department, community provider resources, food vendors, including Alams Taqueria, Pastries by Steph, Loupa’s Chicken, Panaderia Hernandez, That Guys Gourmet Ribs, and Sweet Treats, plus free face painting by Communicating Joy.

It's recommended attendees bring lawn chairs for the main event of speakers and arts and culture performers from 1 to 3 p.m.
