South Shore train containing passengers crashes into car stuck on the tracks

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- An investigation is underway after police say a passenger train crashed into a car stuck on the tracks in St. Joseph County. 

This happened at about 11 p.m. Tuesday, June 9. Officers say they were called out to the Country Club Road and South Shore Line crossing. When they got to the scene, they spoke to the driver of the car. They told officers the vehicle got stuck while they were attempting to turn around.

After trying and failing to get the vehicle off the tracks, they saw a train coming. They were able to get out of the way before it hit the vehicle. No one in the vehicle was hurt, and there were not injures reported among the train's passengers.

The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District is investigating.
