South Shore Line rolls out new schedule following feedback surveys
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The South Shore Line rolled out their new schedule Tuesday, featuring a series of new times and train availability.
The new schedule was released in response to customer feedback surveys sent out over the past few months on the newly unveiled double track project, meant to speed up train times.
ABC57’s Dante Stanton took Train #24 from South Bend to Millennium Station on Tuesday to test the new times and bring live updates from the train on the way back.
A stop-watch recorded time saw a 15-minute delay, with the trip taking two hours, 19 minutes from when the train exited South Bend to when it stopped at Millennium Station. The South Shore Line mobile app predicted that the trip would last two hours and four minutes.
The way back featured almost no delays in it’s expected 1:55 time, leaving at 4:05 p.m. CT and arriving at 7:01 ET, for a total of one hour and 56 minutes.
South Shore Line President, Mike Noland, says the line has worked out a new process to avoid being caught behind Chicago Metra trains, which is intended to keep stoppages short.
The new schedule also includes a train leaving after 11 p.m. on the weekends, allowing fans of Chicago sports to travel into the city by train, watch the whole game and travel back by train, where previously, fans might have to leave their games early to get to a train on time.
