South Bend police officer fired

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Board of Public Safety fired a decorated South Bend police officer for failing to make a police report.

The department launched an internal investigation against Chris Bortone this summer.

Interim Chief Chuck Hurley recommended Bortone's termination based on his job history. He's been suspended twice over the past year.

Hurley also claims Bortone repeatedly lied about the case in question.

Bortone was named South Bend's officer of the year in 2006.
