SOUTH BEND, Ind -- A bittersweet day here in South Bend.
The South Bend Motor Speedway had their last lap today, celebrating the final races of its final season.
Over 125 cars and lots of fans enjoying the final races before it closes after 77 years as a community staple.
One of those racers Saige Hanna was on the track with her car called pixie dust, she’s been racing for 5 years following in her grandfather's footsteps of racing.
“I decided that I always wanted to do it, I liked going into the garage with my dad and everything, it's always been a passion of mine to continue the legacy,” said Hanna.
The speedway owner, Kevin Sauer, who bought the track eight years ago reflecting on his favorite memories here.
“The friendship that we’ve made with all our friends any everything, that tops anything, it's just like we've known some of these people for 50 years, that's the best memory I have,” said Sauer.
While this is the last lap weekend, people here say this place goes beyond just racing, that this is where lifetime friendships have been made.
