South Bend man awaits extradition in Texas for drugs charges

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Indiana State Police announced a lengthy investigation into alleged drug dealing led to a search warrant being served at a residence in the 1000 block of Obrien Street in South Bend on the morning of March 4.
The report states troopers found around two and a half pounds of suspected fentanyl, around a pound of suspected heroin, over 1,000 pills, a stolen handgun, and two fentanyl presses.
Police say an arrest was not made that day due to the target of the investigation leaving prior to the execution of the search warrant.
Authorities say their investigation continued, leading them to believe the target, identified as 40-year-old Regis Owens of South Bend, had fled to Texas.
The report states the continued investigation and cooperation between ISP and Texas authorities resulted in Owens' arrest by the United States Marshals Service Houston Task Force on April 9.
Owens was arrested on active warrants for Level 2 Felony Dealing a Narcotic Drug, Level 3 Felony Possession of a Narcotic Drug, and Felon in Possession of a Handgun.
Owens was taken to the Waller County Jail in Hempstead, Texas, where he is currently awaiting extradition to St. Joseph County, Ind.
