Sleep in Heavenly Peace working to make sure every kid has a bed to sleep in this year
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a nationwide non-profit that aims to give beds to children in need. One of the locations is located in Elkhart County where this year they were able to donate over 200 beds across the county to children between the ages of three and 17.
The team partners with businesses and organizations across the county to be able to make more beds. The bed frames are built from scratch, and after completed assembly, Sleep in Heavenly Peace also donates bedding, pillows and the mattress to create a completed set for these children.
ABC57's Sidney Moore spoke with Jennifer Sager the Co-President of the Elkhart County Chapter who says the best part is delivery day, seeing the kids' faces light up as their new space to sleep arrives.
"It is the most amazing thing. You have little kids who have no idea a lot of times what a bed even is. We had a six-year-old a few years ago that, you know, just in talking to him, you know, we were saying, Are you excited for your bed? And he goes; I don't know what that is. And, you know, it's heartbreaking, so it's very rewarding."
