ORIGINAL STORY: MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation sent an email out Wednesday morning to Schmucker Middle School parents regarding a school shooting threat.
District officials state they were notified of a Snapchat message viewed by a student which stated the school was going to be "shot up and that you better duck and dodge."
P-H-M Director of Safety and Student Services Tommy Teeter was then informed and an investigation alongside law enforcement has begun.
The letter states in part:
"The safety of your child is a top priority for Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation. We take these matters very seriously, responding immediately with the appropriate action. Director Teeter is working directly with law enforcement as they continue their investigation and to put several precautionary measures in place to ensure the safety of Schmucker Middle School for students and staff today, Wednesday, March 4. As part of these measures, we will have additional law enforcement officers on campus throughout the school day. Director Teeter will also be on site to help coordinate these efforts."
School officials are also asking parents to remind their children to report any unsafe behavior or situation to an adult immediately.
